Tax Manager / Senior Manager – Energy Sector

Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid)

About the Role

As a Tax Manager/Senior Manager, you’ll oversee compliance and advisory services for clients in the energy industry . You’ll work closely with clients on strategic tax planning, complex transactions, and evolving regulatory issues. In addition, you’ll lead and mentor a high-performing team and contribute to the growth and direction of the Tax practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead federal and state tax compliance for corporations and partnerships, with a focus on oil & gas clients
• Review and prepare quarterly/year-end income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740
• Guide clients through mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and restructurings
• Conduct and oversee in-depth tax research; draft technical memoranda and position papers
• Monitor industry-specific tax changes and apply regulatory insights to client engagements
• Manage all phases of client engagements, from planning to completion, ensuring efficiency and quality
• Partner with external legal and financial advisors to navigate complex client matters
• Support clients during IRS and state tax audits, including risk mitigation strategies
• Mentor, train, and develop junior team members
• Participate in business development initiatives and client relationship expansion
• Deliver internal and external training on energy sector tax developments

Qualifications

Required:

• CPA license (active and in good standing)
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 5–10 years of tax experience , preferably in public accounting or a large corporate tax department
• Expertise in corporate and partnership taxation , particularly within the oil & gas industry
• Strong knowledge of ASC 740, federal and state tax regulations, and tax planning strategies
• Proficiency with tax software such as OneSource
• Exceptional client service, communication, and project management skills
